Weltweit geraten die Rechte von Frauen und LSBTIQ* zunehmend ins Visier von repressiven Bewegungen. Auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent wird der Kampf um Menschenrechte – insbesondere sexuelle und reproduktive Rechte – sowohl vom kolonialen Erbe als auch von aktuellen geopolitischen Umbrüchen geprägt. Der Rückzug der USA aus ihrer Führungsrolle in der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit und humanitären Hilfe sowie der wachsende Einfluss global agierender, religiös geprägter Akteur*innen auf Anti-LSBTIQ*-Gesetzgebung stellen feministische und LSBTIQ* Menschenrechtsverteidiger*innen vor große Herausforderungen. Inmitten dieser vielschichtigen globalen Angriffe auf die Rechte von LSBTIQ* ist es entscheidend, solidarisch und mit einer klaren dekolonialen Haltung zu reagieren.

Hirschfeld-Eddy-Foundation and Amnesty International kindly invite you to the free Webtalk “Colonial Legacies and Neocolonial Dynamics: LGBTQI+ Rights and the Global Power Struggle in Africa”
Anti-rights-movements increasingly target LGBTQI+ and women’s rights globally. Across the African continent, the struggle for human rights and particularly for sexual and reproductive rights is shaped by both colonial legacies and contemporary geopolitical shifts. The U.S.’s departure from its leadership role in development cooperation and humanitarian aid, and the impact of globally operating faith-based actors in shaping anti-LGBTQI+ legislation impact feminist and LGBTQI+ human rights defenders. In this time of multilayered global assault on the rights of LGBTQI+ individuals, it is crucial to respond in solidarity and in a way that takes a decolonial approach seriously.
